Personnel recruitment is a process with following steps:

  • manpower recruitment computation
  • personnel selection
  • personnel implementation

Two types of personnel recruitment are possible: internal and external.

The first step manpower recruitment computation clarifies the need of the right amount of employees at the right place, the right time and with the right qualification. The quantitative determination of requirement compares the actual capacities with the planning data. Possible requirements are:

  • Initial demand (e.g. in the case of increasing capacities)
  • Expansion demand (e.g. in the case of increasing operating level)
  • Replacement demand (e.g. to replace sick leaves, dismissal, and so on)

Personnel selection: this process selects qualified employees from all job applicants. Important aspects are the general qualification needed for the distinctive type of work and personal characteristics like personality.

The first steps of a new employee are known as the personnel implementation. Following steps are necessary:

  • Registration of employee master data (e.g. birthday, health insurance number, and so on)
  • Introduction to the scope of duties
  • Introduction to other employees

Personnel recruitment should be seen as a supporting process, involving various departments like controlling, resource planning, management, and HR
